When Fred and I married Pamela was 5 years old. We became
a family instantly, with Pam calling him Daddy from the very first day. It was as if it had always been the three of
us. Fred was serving in the U.S Coast Guard at the time and we were transferred to Long Beach, CA where we stayed
for the next 8 years.

A couple years later we knew we could not have a baby so we discussed adopting. We
decided to apply, not knowing if we would be accepted, since we were still military. It turned out God had already picked
out a baby for us and in 2 months our son was born. When he was 5 days old and seeing him for the first time, there was no
doubt in our minds that he was ours. We named him Fredrick and decided to call him Rick since his daddy was called Fred. When
we took him home, we were all so happy and I must confess, I was a little scared. What if something went wrong and they
would come and take him away. But I was reminded in my heart that God had placed Rick in our care and He would make
us a real family, the four of us: Fred, Pamela, Rick and me.
